Mediha Bozkır Yıldız

Mediha cannot use the majority of her muscles due to the cerebral palsy she went through during her babyhood. She moved to the nursery, when she was 38 following her mother’s death. She learned reading and writing there. In 2011, she fell in love and got married at the nursery. They started to live at the house they rented in Darıca. She describes those days as “I was happier than ever in my life. We used to travel everywhere together, I felt love with him” she says. Last year when her husband passed away, everybody recommended her to move back to the nursery. But she declined it saying “I do not want to live dependent and trapped in the nursery. I want to live freely in my own house.”

Now she continues living alone in her house in Darıca. Her neighbors meet her needs for a small fee. She does shopping on her own. Sometimes she goes to Darıca sea coast and sells animal posters. Because the government does not pay her caretaker’s fee. Her biggest desire is to continue her life alone in her own house.
